A true miracle created by man and nature
Pearl is a unique gem produced by a living organism. Unlike other precious stones pearl needs neither cutting nor polishing. Its innate shape and luster are a result of long natural process. Today more than 90% of the pearl market consists of cultured pearls grown on specialized farms.
How Pearls Are Made
When a foreign body like a sand grain or an intentionally put nucleus gets into an oyster's soft tissue, the mollusk starts to protect itself by covering the foreign body with layers of nacre – a substance consisting of very small calcium carbonate crystals. This is how pearls come to be.
It usually takes 6 months to several years for a pearl to form, depending on the type of oyster, future pearl size and environmental conditions. Mollusks stay under supervision throughout the entire pearl growth period. The farmers keep track of water temperature, purity and salinity level as well as the health of oysters. Even slight temperature fluctuations can affect the shape, luster and color of pearl. Pearl cultivation requires extensive knowledge in the fields of biology and ecology.

When pearls are ripe, they are extracted, cleaned, and sorted by main criteria:
